Last year when Carol Platt asked me to participate I was happy to do so because it affected all of us locally. Still recovering from the recession many families are still having difficulty. What touches me most are the children who may be hungry going to school.
Hunger is real. Children suffer twice as much as adults because they need so much more than we need to eat. When I had my foundation that served the children on the eastside of the school district one of the nurses came to me at the beginning of summer school (many years ago) and asked if I knew anyone that could donate breakfast for all the children. She said they were coming to school having not eaten from possibly lunch time the day before. They had headaches and tummy aches which were all attributed to not eating. They couldn’t concentrate and the reason they were in summer school was to catch up academically.
Suffering like this breaks a mother’s heart and motivates you to do more. I just put it in gear and the community came together to purchase small box cereals, apple sauce in small servings, juice boxes and many other things. Our swim team had a food drive, the local grocery stores assisted and the local churches stepped in. It’s amazing what you can accomplish when the need is so strong.
We were lucky that a new superintendent came in who applied for federal grants so this wouldn’t happen again. Thank you Ken Arndt.
We need your donations. We’d love for you to participate so that the pantry can serve our neighbors.
To register just print the registration form and send it with your check to Carol Platt, 561 Saratoga Circle, Algonquin, IL 60102. If you can’t make it, please consider making a donation to the www.alith-foodpantry.org or donating an item for the raffle. You can contact Carol at email@example.com if you have an item for the raffle. We so appreciate whatever you can do.
FYI in case you did not know, Carol Platt and her team are saints for doing all this work.
