Start of a Disappearing Nine-Patch

Sewing the nine patch

I was so excited to find this beautiful fabric at Quilt in Joy and needed to find a quilt pattern to meet the need to create a quilt.

Last week I was browsing at the new quilt store in Crystal Lake, Material Girl, I saw a beautiful quilt top they had displayed and for the life of me couldn’t figure out HOW it was made.  As I drove home I remembered seeing a “Disappearing nine patch” video from Missouri Star Quilts.  That was what this quilt top was fashioned from.

Not wasting a whole lot of time you can see the start of a disappearing nine-patch quilt.  Don’t you just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE all the colors.  I’m using the charm packs from LOVELY, by Sandy Gervais for Moda fabrics.

I’m starting with two charm packs which gave me 9 nine-patch blocks.  These are not “cut” yet into the disappearing portion of the nine-patch.  I’m going to play around with sashing, but think for a large quilt would like to add 2 more charm packs to the mix.

There will be an inner border and an outer border.   The quilt hasn’t spoken to me about how it would like to be “quilted”.  We’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

Sometimes color just whisks you away.
